"I've tried many hearing aids before, and I didn't keep them because I didn't like them. This caused me to be skeptical that you would be able to help me, but I can't believe how well I can hear now! I feel like I can hear like a kid again."

Hearing Aids at Audiology Consulting Services

Today there are so many options in hearing aid technology (eg. # of channels, bands, programs, controls) and it can be dizzying. It is my duty to you to recommend only the most appropriate options for your hearing loss and lifestyle. These recommendations can only come from a discussion with you about your typical daily listening activities and needs.

Before your device is ordered, you will feel confident that you have made your best decision.

Repair and Maintenance
Hearing aid fitting

At the time of a hearing aid fitting, a 2 week progress check will be scheduled so that adjustments to the sound and function of the hearing aids can be made, and so we can re-address care and maintenance practices as well as answer any questions that arise. It's always good to keep a pen and paper handy to write down what you like and don't like about the sound and bring it with you to your appointments.

If an urgent issue arises like discomfort or the hearing aid doesn't function, we're only a phone call away, and we'll get it resolved as soon as possible. The most important thing to your successful hearing aid use is to clean the device(s) daily. You also want to make sure you keep a good battery or two on hand. Keep in mind, hearing decreases gradually over years so it may take a while to adjust to hearing all the sounds around you again. Consistent use is key.

Featured Technology

The more recent hearing aids can make cell phone conversations easier than ever for those with hearing loss because they connect (wirelessly) to the phone. (Ask if this is a feature that is compatible with your technology.)

If you only have trouble hearing over the phone, there are specially designed telephones that will significantly improve your listening. There is also a program through the Iowa Utilities Board that may provide assistance with the purchase of such telephones.

Are you bothered by ringing or buzzing in your ears? There are devices, including hearing aids, that can reduce or temporarily eliminate that. We will discuss what the most appropriate treatment may be.

Hearing Aid Brands

Signia/Siemens, Oticon, EarQ, and Starkey are the brands I typically use to meet my patients' needs. They each have their niches, and I recommend the one(s) that are most suitable for the patient. The hearing aids from these companies have the best track record with repairs and mechanical issues, and are most widely used by audiologists in other areas (which is beneficial to those who travel).
